Dr. Marianne Matthias is a Research Scientist at the Roudebush VA Medical Center and Regenstrief Institute in Indianapolis, IN, and Research Professor in the Department of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine. She is a health services researcher who focuses on communication in healthcare contexts, with particular interest in treatment decision-making in chronic pain care. She is currently principal investigator on a randomized controlled trial focused on patient activation and communication for Black Veterans with chronic pain and co-principal investigator on a mixed-methods study examining the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Veterans’ pain management. She serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of General Internal Medicine and Pain Medicine and has published over 90 scholarly articles.
